Kiely Cronin, Carlson Wireless TVWS Product Manager, describes the many uses of TV White Space at APCO Convention.
Last month, Carlson Wireless Technologies attended the 79th APCO show at the Anaheim Convention Center. APCO is the world’s largest organization dedicated to public safety telecommunications. At the convention, Carlson Wireless’ Product Development Manager, Kiely Cronin, gave a captivating presentation on “4 Ways to Use TV White Space in Public Safety Communications”.
While continued advancements will allow for a multitude of applications to develop, Mr. Cronin’s presentation covered 4 examples of how White Space technology could be used today to enhance public safety communications: greater ubiquitous network access, surveillance, mobile command operations, and resilient networks. The radio considered in these applications was the RuralConnect, Carlson’s acclaimed White Space radio, which is capable of extending networks wirelessly to remote and hard-to-reach areas, far exceeding the reach of alternative technologies.
On the trade show floor Carlson staff informed guests of the multiple public safety applications for TV white space. Visitors were also given the opportunity to receive a TV white spaces propagation test for their area and were astounded by the number of vacant channels. Want to check the available channels in your area? Just logon to www.showmywhitespace.com, enter your location, and an up-to-date list of availability will appear instantly.
Although there is still a lot of work to be done in the field, Carlson’s efforts are expanding the TV white space revolution day-by-day. The APCO show gave a glimpse of what TV white space can do, and was just another step toward an equally connected world.
