There are two distinct advantages that Carlson TrueTDM™ products have over IP based products in public safety voice networks.

The first is low fixed latency. This is especially important when transporting two-way repeater receive signals into a voter receiver/comparator or simulcast system. Both our Trailblazer™ and LongHaul T1/E1™ products introduce very low latency - on the order of a few milliseconds, which is generally not enough to affect the voter. This latency is also fixed so delays can be added to the voter inputs to align all inputs to the same point in time. IP-based radios are by definition asynchronous, so latency can be significant (hundreds of milliseconds) and can vary considerably depending on network traffic. The varying latency often causes voters to get confused and switch to the wrong input. Equipped with our exclusive TrueTDM™ technology both our Trailblazer™ and LongHaul T1/E1™ products provide a practical and convenient “plug and play” solution to this problem.

The second advantage applies to our LongHaul T1/E1™ product. Putting a T1/E1 over an IP/Ethernet radio link will cause the T1/E1 timing to be lost which will make the output to "free run" with respect to the input. This can cause slips which will show up as pops and lost syllables on the audio. Since LongHaul T1/E1™ is a synchronous T1/E1 based link, the output timing exactly matches the input timing on the T1/E1 line, the same as a wired T1/E1 circuit. And because our TrueTDM™ technology is imbedded in the product there is no additional 3rd party equipment, reducing equipment cost and installation time.

For telecom applications Carlson TrueTDM™ technology has a big advantage over VoIP as it is compatible with all traditional carrier class telephone services and is the same Time Division Multiplex technology used by wired POTS, 4-wire E&M, and T1/E1 lines. This makes the Carlson TrueTDM™ System the only reliable and fully 911 and carrier class compliant wireless telephone technology available.
